Artists-in-Residence at 'Glenfern'
Corner Inkerman & Hotham Streets
East St Kilda
for the National Trust of Australia (Victoria)


In 2002 , the Team of Pianists accepted an invitation to become Artists-in-Residence in a splendid 1857 Trust mansion, Glenfern, on the corner of Inkerman and Hotham Streets in East St Kilda.

Apart from having offices there, Glenfern provides the facilities to give solo and chamber recitals, as well as masterclasses. Glenfern is also the home for the Glenfern Piano Institute.

The Team of Pianists also appears in Rippon Lea and other Trust homes such as Labassa, Como, Illawarra and Barwon Park.

About Alexander Mathias-Murer...

Born in Munich, Germany, Alexander-Mathias grew up in Austria and completed his voice and piano studies at the Univerity of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria; he has studied with, amongst others, Prof Martin Klietmann, Prof Eva Bartfai-Klietmann, KS Sona Ghazarian (Vienna), Maestro Vito Brunetti (Bolzano), and KS Johan Botha (Vienna), KS Sona Ghazarian, KS Gottfried Hornik and KS Hilde Zadek.

 

He has won the „International Prof. Dichler Singing Competition Vienna“ and the „International Operetta Competition Heinrich Strecker“ as well as the AIMS (American Institute of Musical Studies) Scholarship 2006.

 

Alexander-Mathias has appeared in opera, operetta, oratorio and recitals in Italy (Modena, Ancona, Mantova), Germany (Hamburg, Suhl, Munich,...), France (Marseille), Czech Republic (Prag, Budwa, Brno,...), Hungary (Budapest, Sopron, Szombatheley), Swiss (Bern, Zürich) and  Austria (Vienna, Graz, Salzburg, Linz,...) where he worked with conducters like Sir Charles Mackeras, Michael Gielen, Heimo Smola and Anton Würl.

 

His repertoire includes Tony (West Side Story), Hexe (Haensel und Gretel), Geharnischter & Priester,Monostatos & Tamino (Zauberfloete), Cavaradossi (Tosca), Pinkerton (Butterfly), Max (Freischuetz), Graf Balduin von Zedlau (Wiener Blut), Paris (Schoene Helena), Eisenstein & Alfred (Fledermaus), Barinkai (Zigeuner Baron), Sou Hong (Land des Laechelns), John Cunnlight (Victoria & Ihr Husar), Danilo (Lustige Wittwe), Loge (Das Rheingold), Lohengrin (Lohengrin) as well as many oratorio roles (e.g. Verdi‘s Messa di Requiem, Puccinis Messa di Gloria).

 

Alexander-Mathias is now based in Melbourne as a sought after performer, teacher, adjudicator and music & choir director.
